In Home Entertainment: Cake Batter Playdough

We are starting to see a theme develop in our arts and crafts projects this winter: playdough that looks good enough to eat. It's some good sensory fun on those long winter afternoons without all the calories (who are we kidding? we're usually simultaneously eating sweets ....). And this dough turned out so fluffy and soft we would have eaten it if mom had let us.

Here's the dealio (we followed this recipe). Get yourself:
- 1 box of cake mix (any will do, but we thought the funfetti was, well, super fun)
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 1/2 cups of salt
- 6 tsp cream of tartar
- 6 tbls vegetable oil
- 3 cups of water

Then, mix it all in a large pot and cook it on medium heat until the dough begins to form a ball. We found it took longer to form than our regular cooked dough, but it smelled so delish we didn't mind. Place ball on countertop or parchment paper. Knead until soft and pliable.

We decided to try and fool daddy into eating our "real cupcakes" so we used cupcake pans to mold the cupcakes out of cake batter dough and then topped them with our nutella playdough as frosting. Then we added real sprinkles and candy to the top. It took us 45 minutes of playing like this until we realized we could actually eat the sprinkles and candy, which was about 44 minutes longer than mom expected. We did such a good job and tricked daddy completely!
