Miscellaneous Madness: A Day in the Life (August 2013)

This day actually started out at 3 a.m. when mom woke up to take us to see the peak Perseid meteor shower forecast for the early hours. We planned to head out to Observatory Park in Virginia for prime viewing away from city lights. Mom dragged herself out of bed, got ready and had the good sense to check the Observatory's twitter account, which indicated that they had actually closed up shop at 2 a.m. because of cloudy viewing conditions. Ack. We were not happy that morning when we woke up to the sun -- we had been quite excited to get up in the middle of the night as planned. And mom was kind of grouchy because she never really went back to sleep after waking up at 3. So we had a quiet, typical day not doing much of anything.

Don't forget to check out our friends at No Monsters in My Bed and Where the Watermelons Grow for their 12 in 12s this month. And let us know if you want to join next month!

7.15 am -- Mom finds Kane on the couch bemoaning the presence of the sun. He claims he is "sick" from waking up repeatedly in the night of meteor excitement. And then we didn't even get to go.

8.30 am -- As usual, when one fakes sick, the other does, too. Cam climbs in bed with a "headache" only to "sing" her favorite book, "Three Little Birds," over and over and over.

9.45 am -- Cleveland Park Library. Having just returned from vacation, we are in need of a complete exchange of hard copy and audio books.

10.50 am -- Daddy did no grocery shopping while we were gone and we have an empty freezer to fill. A TJs trip with both kids is rare because, as anticipated, we spent 15 minutes in the cheese department and bought two kinds of goat cheese, a wheel of brie cheese ("cheese pie! cheese pie!"), cheddar cheese, babybel cheese, Mexican shredded cheese, and cheese dip. They would survive on cheese alone if possible. And yogurt (of which we bought 8 kinds).

11.55 am -- Cam helps load the groceries into the back of the car while Kane puts stickers in her hair.

12.30 am -- Masters of grocery unpacking. They have developed an organizing system: frozen and refrigerated food stacked on the island. Pantry items on the table. Bags flattened and stacked on the floor. And Vegas sniffs everything. They earn $1 for unpacking and organizing in record time.

1.45 pm -- We all walk the dog. Cam has picked up on the best way to walk her baby and the dog at the same time.

2.30 pm -- Cameron and Veg "practice ballet" while mom waters the flowers.

3.55 pm -- Ninja breakdance fighting.

4.15 pm -- Glitter art.

5.25 pm -- Isn't it obvious? That's an epic tv trance right there.

6.30 pm -- Homemade panko-crusted chicken fingers for dinner.

7.50 pm -- Two chapters of our new favorite series -- Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events." We listened to the first as an audiobook on our trip and just started the second. Highly recommend the audio listening -- mom can't do the voices as well.

Aw, I'm sorry you guys missed out on the meteor shower! And I am jealous of your cheese spree. A. is allergic to milk so no sprees for us. :(
